AMA about SecureDrop @ localizationlab

Bonjour,

TL;DR: Save the date for the SecureDrop Ask Me Anything: April 12th, 2018
5pm UTC in the localizationlab chat. You can register here.

Although SecureDrop has been an active member of the localizationlab community for more than six month, we failed to organize an Ask Me Anything. This is our chance to properly thanks localizers who participated in the past relases, welcome new participants, answer concerns and build a stronger relationship. The three most active SecureDrop developers will be present and actively taking notes.

  • Location: April 12th, 2018 5pm UTC in the localizationlab chat
  • Date and time: April 12th, 2018 5pm UTC
  • Registration: If you are not already participating in the localizationlab chat, you can register here

Mark your calendars and come ready with any questions and feedback that you might have. This event will be open to all, regardless of your familiarity with SecureDrop.

What is SecureDrop?

SecureDrop is a whistleblower submission system that media organizations can use to securely accept documents from and communicate with anonymous sources. It was originally created by the late Aaron Swartz and is currently developed by Freedom of the Press Foundation and a horizontal community of volunteers.

How can you contribute to localization efforts?

SecureDrop is committed to rely on Free Software and self-hosted resources for localization and has its own self-hosted weblate which comes with an extensive localizer manual. It really is a rather simple web interface and anyone can participate, there is no need to ask for permission.

SecureDrop is also part of an effort involving a number of localizationlab projects to improve the usability of self-hosted localization platforms. At a more modest scale SecureDrop is also engaged in a decentralized and volunteer based effort to continuously improve the weblate features. In a nutshell, the idea is to mix a lot of volunteer time with a little funding and build momentum.

Last but not least, you can contribute by telling developers what prevents you from contributing. It can be little things that are minor inconveniences as well as major blockers.
