I vastly underestimated the importance of going through part of the test-planning process as a team ensures that everyone understands and supports the research goals, priorities, and methods. I thought it would be a good idea if people interested in UX work together. But I now understand this will have side effects for everyone involved in SecureDrop. Not everybody has to spend time and work on code or conduct interviews. But it is essential that everyone supports what we do, otherwise there will be friction and it will be much less effective.
